How We Support Multi-Sport Athletes
Tips for Athletes Who Play Multiple Sports

Being a multi-sport athlete is not only common, but we believe that having athletes play multiple sports grows their skills within soccer. Of course, we’re passionate first and foremost about soccer. But we also understand that kids benefit from experiencing different sports.
Building well-rounded athletes who love competition and have diverse athletic skills is at the forefront of our approach. Here’s a closer look on how we approach this:
Experience Flexible Scheduling when Possible
Many of our players are also interested in competing in other sports. Therefore, we will always do our best to work with families if scheduling overlaps do inevitably happen.
If your child looks at the schedule and sees they have a game or tournament that conflicts with a practice, we hope that you communicate that with coaches as early as you possibly can.
Multi-sport athletes are juggling a lot. What matters the most is that our players communicate their schedules and needs ahead of time so they can stay engaged with the team and come back ready to work hard.
There Are Benefits to Cross Training
Different sports develop different athletic skills, and we see the evidence on the field every single day. Plus, developing skills through different sports translate directly to skills in soccer. Our coaches understand that the conditioning and competitive experience gained from other sports make our soccer players more well-rounded.
Our goal is that players remain motivated and engaged with their place on our soccer teams. For some players, this means playing more than one sport. There are some great benefits to cross training.
Diverse Experience Build Character
Playing multiple sports exposes athletes to athletic needs and challenges. They learn to adapt to various coaching styles, build important relationships with different peer groups and develop skills that serve them well beyond athletics. New sport experiences build up new perspectives.
Playing multiple sports also makes children more resilient. They understand that one bad game or one difficult season in soccer doesn't define them. They have more chances to excel in different places. This balanced approach to athletics creates healthier, more grounded young people.
Clear Communication Is So Important
The key to successfully an athlete being able to balance multiple sports is communication. We ask families to let us know early about scheduling conflicts so we can plan around them as best as we can.
If your child is playing fall soccer and winter basketball, just let us know about playoff schedules or tournament weekends in case we find that anything overlaps with our soccer schedules. The more notice you give us and that we have, the better we can support your child's participation in all sports they decide to participate in.
We also encourage players to be honest with themselves and their families about what they can realistically handle. Some kids do well when they are juggling multiple sports. Others might prefer focusing on one only one sport at a time.
It really just depends on the individual child. We're here to support whatever path makes sense for your family while keeping your child's wellbeing at the center of the decision.
